Description

Description

This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Acros Organics product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand. The original Acros Organics product / item code or SKU reference has not changed as a part of the brand transition to Thermo Scientific Chemicals.

General Information

• Ciprofloxacin is considered a synthetic broad-spectrum second-generation compound with antibiotic activity mainly against gram-negative bacteria
• It inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes that are essential for DNA replication, cell division, and causes double-strand breaks in the bacterial chromosome

Applications

• Ciprofloxacin presents more activity against gram-negative bacteria than gram-positive bacteria.
• Ciprofloxacin does not present cross-resistance between fluoroquinolones and other antibiotics classes, which is beneficial in laboratory experiments when other antibiotics are no longer effective
